Machine Vision Products demonstrates Dynamic Process Control (DPC) Line Manager and Fuji FLEXA Connectivity.

Carlsbad, CA (November 6th, 2009): Machine Vision Products (MVP) today announced it would be demonstrating the award winning Dynamic Process Control (DPC) Manufacturing Management Suite at Productronica 2009 in Munich, November 10th to 13th. Hall A4 Booth 229.

DPC continues to enhance its already class leading software tools, extending the capability of Manufacturing Execution Software (MES) directly to the equipment and operations of SMT manufacturing lines. These tools provide the capability to significantly improve the performance, quality and traceability of today’s rapidly changing production environments.

On single or mixed vendor SMT production lines, DPC allows all data to be stored and viewed using a single toolset, while at the same time supplying detailed proactive instructions and optimized leading indicators. DPC's unique instructional approach to Lean Manufacturing prompts users to take action to minimize every possible opportunity for loss. Each action prioritized by its impact at that exact moment in time, ensuring operations are always performing to the maximum of their current capability.

Building on the success of its current modules for machine management, setup verification and traceability, MVP has successfully integrated its Line Control Manager (LCM) module adding real-time line management at operations, engineering and operator level. While driving line performance and preserving data for historical trending, LCM also allows for seamless integration with both in-house and proprietary ERP, MRP and MES tools.

Successfully running in 24/7 production since January 2004 on lines containing mixtures of CAMX and legacy equipment, MVP has also enhanced its equipment communication interfacing with even more SMT equipment platforms, now adding Fuji Flexa. This together with its continuing support and development of CAMX, proprietary interfaces and SECSII/GEM ensures its ability to connect to ALL equipment in a manufacturing line.

MVP to Introduce 3-D AOI Technology at APEX 2005

Carlsbad, California 2-22-2005 - Machine Vision Products (MVP), the leader in vision and process control technology, announces that it will premiere the 3-D AutoInspector 1820 Series in booth 2184 at the APEX tradeshow and exhibition, scheduled for February 22 to 24, 2004, in Anaheim, Calif.

MVP has developed a new 3-D inspection approach by integrating the latest available high-speed smart cameras into the existing design of the AutoInspector 1820 Series. Using MVP's patented technology, components as small as 0201 and microBGAs can be inspected using this new 3-D technology.

3-D inspection capability provides an extension of the AutoInspector 1820 Ultra defect coverage by giving users the flexibility to add 3-D coverage for paste inspection for the entire board, selected areas of the board as well as for a production sampling mode in which the system inspects 3-D based on a user-selected sampling rate. The modularity of the new 3-D solution maximizes the flexibility of the 1820 Ultra series, and provides for easy field upgrades capable for 0201 and microBGA inspection.

The 3-D design draws on an extensive history in this technology, including a patent on 3-D inspection using orthogonal cameras. The design, established on a laser triangulation principle, is based on orthogonal laser sampling with software-controlled sampling resolution and angled smart cameras. One or multiple 3-D cameras can be configured to provide throughput scalability. In 100 percent 3-D sampling mode, inspection speed meets any line speed. Configuration options include 3-D only as well as integrated 2-/3-D inspection.

Unsurpassed flexibility with 2-/3-D is provided based on MVP's multiple-pass technology that enables the creation of separate inspection passes for the same program using different sensors and/or different lighting. This technology also enables sampling under pass control for an inspection program. For example, every board coming down the line could be inspected 100 percent in 2-D, and every nth board could be tested with an additional 3-D inspection pass. The 2-/3-D multi-pass approach also allows for the inspection of paste (fine pitch) and components in paste simultaneously.

MVP is Issued US Patent for CIMCIS

Carlsbad, California 1-27-2003 - Machine Vision Products, Inc. (MVP), global leader in automated optical inspection (AOI) and process control solutions, today has announced that a United States Patent has been granted for its Computer Integrated Manufacturing Control and Information System ("CIMCIS").

CIMCIS allows manufacturers to monitor their processes in real time. For example, in printed circuit board assembly, CIMCIS can monitor each piece of equipment on the manufacturing line. In this instance, should the process become unstable or begin operating outside the operator's present required parameters, the system will send a signal that the monitored process is out control and corrective action must be taken. Once these actions are implemented, further errors and defects are eliminated.

CIMCIS capabilities include machine and line management, setup verification and feeder tracking, and material management and control.

The product can be used in several applications, from bottling, medical, and textile to electronics manufacturing. Basically, anywhere a manufacturing process needs monitoring, CIMCIS can perform. "We have already proven ourselves in some of the best OEM and CEM facilities internationally," stated Tom Nash, president of MVP's CIMCIS Division. "Our customers are now enjoying tremendous savings through increased yields and quality while managing SMT material which provides a significant reduction in scrap & attrition."

"It's a scary thing. Just when you believe your manufacturing is at its best, we put CIMCIS on the line and find out a manufacturer is only operating at extremely low levels of efficiency. That's when we can locate the problems, correct them on the spot, and tighten up the process increasing the company's effectiveness by 15 - 50% in just one week's time," said Nash.

MVP's AutoInspector 1820 Ultra Redefines the Industry-Leading Standard for Speed and Performance in High Volume AOI

APEX 2001, San Diego, California 1-16-2001 - Machine Vision Products, Inc.(MVP), will display the world's fastest Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) system at Apex 2001 in the form of its fifth generation 'AutoInspector 1820 Ultra' high performance machine.

Using MVP's exclusive quad-speed cameras with flying camera technology, and the rapid 120 image/second inspection rate of the AutoInspector 1820 Ultra allows the machine to match the throughput speed of any line without loss of accuracy. Up to four cameras can be employed, enabling the system to fully address the greatly increased AOI challenges of inspecting higher volume PCB assembly processes. The 1820 Ultra's high mechanical precision is derived from its rigid construction and linear motors operated in closed feedback. Its real precision is derived from its high resolution pixel size - down to 15 microns.

As MVP's President and CEO, Dr. George Ayoub, points out: "In all AOI systems, however, the biggest influence on the precision imaging for accurate inspection and measurement is the pixel resolution of the measurement system. MVP's AutoInspectors, therefore, have a standard field of view that results in a pixel size of 17 microns, which is perfectly sufficient for even 0402 inspection. In order to achieve high-precision results in 0201 applications, MVP can further reduce this pixel size to just 15 microns. And this pixel resolution is the highest, most accurate resolution available on any high-speed, in-line AOI system currently available on the market."

"The primary challenge for AOI systems has been to overcome the trade-off between resolution and throughput. Whereas AOI vendors typically sacrifice resolution in order to meet cycle time requirements," continues Dr. Ayoub, "MVP, with its unique flying camera technology, has successfully addressed this challenge with the AutoInspector 1820 Ultra by combining the fastest inspection throughput on the market with the highest resolution available."

The 1820 Ultra encompasses copy-exact capability. It is designed to meet the highest of inter-machine repeatability standards, exhibiting modularity, simplicity, and frame rigidity. Powered by its advanced algorithms, the 1820 Ultra can be placed anywhere on the line. The MVP AutoInspector 1820 Ultra offers 100% inspection coverage at any production line speed with an exceptionally low false call rate: a problem that has traditionally plagued many other AOI systems.

The SMEMA compatible 1820 Ultra is also extremely flexible and can be seamlessly integrated into any area of the assembly process (for example, paste, post placement or pre-solder). With this unique capability, the 1820 can be used to identify assembly defects and monitor process trends to catch problems early in the assembly process on both SMT and mixed technology boards; yet, the machine is equally effective as a standalone unit.

In addition, the MVP AutoInspector 1820 Ultra exploits an extremely robust physical design that has been totally production proven in some of the toughest and most demanding production environments of the world's leading OEMs and CEMs.

The MVP AutoInspector 1820 Ultra's vision capability can be enhanced with advanced color and flux inspection options as well.

As such, the 1820 Ultra can identify an enormous range of potential defects with total reliability. For SMT components this includes checking at pre- or post-solder for the presence, absence and correct placement/orientation of devices (X, Y, and rotation), their polarity, solder fillet quality, presence of bridging or solder opens, insufficient fillets, excess solder, and lifted leads.

Checks of through-hole (TH) devices at pre- or post-solder include presence and absence of components, bent-under pins, solder presence, and bridging. Top-side inspection options include TH IC orientation and polarity checking.

Finally, for paste inspection, the MVP AutoInspector 1820 Ultra can inspect paste for placement centroids (X and Y), area, pad area coverage, and any overall translation or rotation of the board with respect to the screen printer.

In operation, the MVP AutoInspector 1820 Ultra is extremely easy to use. With innovative automatic database generation and tuning tools that exploit powerful and reliable intelligent algorithms, and provide the highest inspection speed without compromising accuracy or repeatability, the 1820 Ultra requires minimal user programming.

To further enhance process control anywhere in a production line the 1820 Ultra is equipped with MVP's AutoGraph and AutoMonitor real-time SPC packages as standard. Programmable alarm settings and easy-to-use summary and report functions make true process control an instant reality. Boards can be tracked sequentially or with MVP's standard barcode readers.

All functions can be accessed via a few simple point-and-click operations from an extremely intuitive graphical user interface. The MVP 1820 Ultra features a networked off-line programming facility that can be accessed from a factory LAN via an Ethernet connection to further increase the speed and ease of inspection program generation.

For process characterization applications where extreme levels of inspection accuracy are required, MVP also offers an advanced version of the 1820 Ultra -- the 1820 Ultra G. The Ultra G exploits an ultra high precision linear granite stage, air bearing technology, and enhanced highly accurate metrology. The air bearings allow heavy loads to be moved without losing precision. The machine allows components as small as 0201 and beyond to be reliably inspected in volume production and their assembly processes to be analyzed with exceptional accuracy and precision.

MVP Changes the Face of AOI with the Introduction of 'Dynamic Process Control'

APEX 2001, San Diego, California 1-16-2001 - Machine Vision Products, Inc. (MVP), a leading manufacturer of automatic optical inspection (AOI) systems, introduces MVP CIMCIS Dynamic Process Control( -- a revolutionary error measurement, inspection and feedback system that collects data from boards in process and lets operators take immediate, corrective action whenever any segment of line performance drops below preset limits. The combination of MVP's high speed AutoInspector Series of AOI systems and MVP CIMCIS Dynamic Process Control gives users the ability to monitor and optimize pick and place systems, feeders and nozzles, resulting in tightly controlled process variability, higher first pass yields, and improved quality.

Using traditional inline AOI measurements, MVP integrates the accuracy of its AutoInspector Series with the MVP CIMCIS Network and Line Controller to deliver real-time Dynamic Process Control and optimum SMT line management. And because MVP's AOI systems can detect defects anywhere on the line - including paste, pre-reflow and post-reflow / wave - the CIMCIS Expert Response System can identify problems created by individual placement machines, feeders and nozzles, and send operator instructions and corrective actions to the "guilty" machine, based upon Process Control Limits set by engineering. In addition, Dynamic Process Control can be used to verify line setup - helping users build products right the first time, without the need for expensive repairs and increased operational costs.

Real-time data collected by MVP's AutoInspector are captured and archived in a CIMCIS "open" SQL database. With the addition of a Web Browser feature, in-depth process information can be accessed and instructions sent to particular machines from anywhere in the world via the Internet. Of course, information is stringently protected through Windows' NT security features.

"This is a cutting edge product far superior to anything in the marketplace," said Dr. George Ayoub, founder and president of MVP. "As an industry, we understand the value of SPC, yet the process itself has not fully delivered the yield enhancements that we expected - in part because information is delivered after the fact: after a substantial amount of time and money has been lost. Dynamic Process Control, on the other hand, is real time. Errors are found and corrected almost immediately. With this innovation, MVP CIMCIS has raised the bar. And for the first time, users have a tool that inspects the entire process immediately, and shows line operators where corrective action needs to take place - down to the level of individual feeders and nozzles.
